Block Updates

Inclement Weather Update

Due to snow, the following programs at Block Institute will be closed on Tuesday, January 27, 2015:  

-Block Institute  School
-Block Academy
-Adult Day Services  at  Stillwell Avenue,  Bay  Parkway and  Bay 44th  Street
-Family Support  Services
-Afternoon  innovative respite

All Residential facilities will require adequate staffing.  Please follow the Residential Services communications strategy.

In the event of an emergency, please call our hotline at 1-800-285-5091.  This number is for emergencies only.  

Brooklyn Family Support Fair is hosting their annual art contest for individuals. The theme for the fair is “CHANGE STARTS WITH YOU”. Please create artwork around this theme. Programs and Individuals are encouraged to submit original art for the Flyer and Poster for the Fair. Please mail your artwork to Christopher Greif c/o BFSSAC 888 Fountain Ave. Bldg. 1 Suite121 Brooklyn NY 11208. Postmarked no later than 2/28/15.

Family Advocacy Day is scheduled for February 20, 2015. The location will be announced soon.

The Family Support Committee Meeting is held every first Wednesday of the month at Block Institute from 10am-12pm. The meeting allows an opportunity for families and providers to come together and plan for the annual Family Support Fair at Brooklyn College.

Welcome to the Institute of Possibilities

Welcome to Block Institute of Brooklyn, New York, a non-profit, non-sectarian agency dedicated to improving the quality of life for people with disabilities and their families. Established in 1962, Block Institute has extensive experience providing individualized services for children and adults with developmental disabilities.

For nearly 50 years, Block Institute has been a beacon of hope for the developmentally disabled and their families. Our program offerings include Special Education and Evaluation Services for children with special needs ages three to eight years old. For adults with disabilities who are age 18 and older, we provide Day Habilitation, Vocational Services, Day Treatment, and quality Residential Care in a family like setting. Our adult programs help individuals with disabilities to develop increased independence, individuality, productivity and community inclusion. We firmly believe that every individual, no matter his or her disability, has the potential to achieve greater independence, and lead a more fulfilling life.
