At Block Institute, we firmly believe that every individual has the potential to achieve greater independence and lead a more fulfilling life. Our focus is to bring out the potential inside each person while remaining sensitive to their abilities and needs. Every accomplishment, no matter how seemingly small, is a giant step forward for those who achieve it. We help adults with developmental disabilities to learn and grow through specialized programs and services for individuals age 18 and older and who meet eligibility criteria established by the New York State Office for People With Developmental Disabilities (OPWDD). Day Treatment — Block Institute's Day Treatment program focuses on person-centered planning to develop functional activities of daily living; community inclusion through frequent outings to the local library, parks, community events and merchants; acquisition of academic skills and leisure pursuits such as swimming, dance, cultural events, arts and crafts. Clinical services including psychology, speech-language pathology, occupational and physical therapy are offered within the program setting. Day Habilitation — Block Institute's Day Habilitation program focuses on greater individualized person-centered plans to facilitate independence and productivity through community inclusion in volunteer sites; the development of job readiness skills, academics, functional activities of daily living, travel training, cultural awareness; and leisure activities such as swimming, dance, theater arts, and arts and crafts. Pre-Employment Day Habilitation — Block Institute's Pre-Employment Day Habilitation program prepares individuals for supported work in a competitive work environment. Through person centered planning, individuals are placed in volunteer and training opportunities in various lines of employment within the community, with the potential for future competitive employment. Vocational Services — Block Institute's Vocational Services offers a continuum of services that focus on developing individualized, person centered job related skills that can lead to independent, competitive employment opportunities within the community. Pre-Vocational Services — The Block Institute Pre-Vocational Services offers individuals who require a high level of supervision, employment training, support, and paid work activity in a workshop setting. Supported Employment Services — The Supported Employment Services program at Block Institute offers individuals who have a potential for independent competitive employment, job development, job placement and job coaching in a competitive work environment, based on the needs, abilities and desires of the individuals seeking gainful employment. Residential Services — Block Institute provides quality residential care in family-like settings to individuals with a wide range of developmental disabilities. Our goal is to provide unique and individualized services that assist each person in achieving greater independence and integration within the community.
