Photography Group

The Block Institute Photography Group is comprised of 6 Developmentally Disabled Adults and 2 Staff members.  The group meets two times per week for a course of six weeks.  New groups are made up at the end of each six week period.  The group works on all aspects of photography, such as: the use of a digital camera, setting up and executing the shots, loading the pictures on the computer and printing the days photos in order to share with everyone.  The group researches a variety of locations of interest to them in order to take the photos, for example: The Brooklyn Botanical Gardens, Historical Kensington, Coney Island, Prospect Park Zoo and Greenwood Cemetery.  The photos taken have been displayed throughout the agency allowing each individual to take great pride in sharing their work with others. The benefits of participating in a group such as this are numerous: increased community inclusion, working as a team, having something concrete to show for their efforts, and letting the disabled know that despite their disabilities their creativity and potential has no boundaries.
